Wayne McArthur

Wayne McArthur

Moon Wave Music is a concept of works within the structure of a record production label and sound system with recording and marketing facilities.

The label was first founded in 1987. It issued the first release on 12", a tune entitled "Good that you do" recorded at Ariwa studio, but keeping going with the sound System is important for a label to promote your products.

Where is Wayne WacArthur coming from?...

An Artist who has an appetite for Folkal Reggae so much so that he used to demand Reggae records be played in the music lessons instead of being made to score Bach, Tchaikosvsky and Mozart, but soon learned that it did not get him into the school orchestra. Still he was always active in the school dances and at the community youth centre functions and because he had a love for records, he was not just happy about being a DJ so he started to get into Sing-Jay being influenced by influenced by reggae greats such as Big Youth, U Roy, Dennis Brown, Tappa Zuke, Ken Boothe & many others.

He left school to start work in a motorway cafe with his school mates but went into engineering for a better wage and started to build a sound system set with a few of his peers. They would rave and listen to big roots sounds such as Shaka, Coxonne, Fatman, King Original and Mombassa.

1988 was when the label got its own 8 track recording studio set up, in which the first recording: "Never gonna give it up / JAH Love is the reason why" was released on 7". These are recordings that will be going forward to be reworked in the near future.

Moon wave is an independent label which has its own production team headed by co-ordinator Bee Rose who incidentally was the one who formally named the label in 1984.

From his sound system inspiration he started to work on and build up his own sound. It was then that Wayne decided to get serious
into the learning of recording music and started to make demos at the local recording studios. It was from these demos that he took some of his works to Ariwa Studios then based in Thornton Heath, Crystal Palace, where he asked Professor to do some mixing on his raw material but he did not at that time release anything.

After a few years Wayne went back to Professor and did his first single with Black Steel on the rhythm section. A bubbly, rootsy melody called "Good that you do" which proved popular but was not taken up. Undeterred, Wayne held on to his creativity and originality and set up his own recording and released a 7"- the first from his studio sounds- but it did not do that much until the release of the 12" single entitled "Special Request" which carries a signature tune for his new found label 'Moon Wave Music"

Therefore, let the reality of Wayne McArthur penetrate from your speakers as the elemental vibrations shakes all over the living room, because original roots music is still happening with " No Material Diversity".
